The Litany Against Fear

I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. (Frank Herbert)

6 Months Later...

I'm making the rounds. Checking up on friends and updating my blog after a long hiatus. Anya is a happy and healthy 9 month old, and so far nothing about her is out of the ordinary. She's full of giggles and smiles, coos and baby babble, and lots of love. Perfection! I am doing well. Last brain MRI came back negative so I'm getting well acquainted with NED (no evidence of disease). Of course I cannot be content because I still fear its eventual return. We are living with my brother and his family for financial reasons and it has come to my attention that I am a bit of a negative person. A spoil sport. A pessimist. I know I've always had a half-empty sort of outlook, but I think my trials have made it worse. I'm working on changing my attitude because the last thing I want is to pass this on to Anya.

She is so, so beautiful!!!
So glad that things are going well and that you are NED.

I do have a little girl under my care now too: my teenager had a baby. Although the timing isn't great, I do love my little grandbaby.

Hi Kim - I found your blog a few months ago via a message that my friend (and yours too I think) Lauren G. once posted on the YSC board. I am a fellow stage IV bc gal and am SO incredibly inspired by your story. I thought my dreams of having a family were shattered forever but you have given me hope. Thank you for that. I'm in CA but am currently participating in a clinical trial for a vaccine at U of W. Perhaps our paths will cross one day. Blessings to you and your beautiful family. Long may you dance with our guy NED.

Hi Kim,
I noticed that you are following my blog, so today I tried to find out who you are. And here I am on your blog. What a story! You are a brave young woman. I have a 23 year old daughter and a 31 year old son, who are dealing with their old mother's breast cancer. I cannot imagine if the reverse were true and I had to deal with my daughter's breast cancer. It is so uplifting to see your beautiful little daughter's pictures and to know that you are still fighting the good fight. Never give up. Anya needs you. I will be looking forward to your blog updates. I hope you are enjoying reading mine. I'm still in the midst of everything, as you probably know. I also know that with a baby in the house and chemo treatments to go to, you are a BUSY woman and probably don't read my blog regularly. That's perfectly OK. Take care of Anya and take care of yourself. I will be praying for you!

Yes, I do have a blog - its on Caringbridge. Send me an email and I'll send you the link. How are you these days? I had another round of Gamma Knife a few weeks back but otherwise am doing well. Heading to Seattle for my second to last vaccine injection in 2 weeks.

Hello, I am another stage IV breast cancer survivor! Thank you so much for sharing your story- it gives me hope. I too was diagnosed young- 29, and then at 30 re-diagnosed with bone mets. I would love to hear how you are doing, as it has been some time since you posted last. I pray everything is okay, and that Anya is keeping you on your toes. I have one son, and I hope one day, if I reach NED, that I could have another, and you have given me that hope. Please, if you get a chance- email me back.... kristin-ness@uiowa.edu.

Hello Batty,

I hope all is well. I wanted to let you know about this great resource Healthline has about breast cancer. The resource includes a virtual tour on understanding the progression of breast cancer, from where it starts to how it affects the body.

You can see the guide here: http://www.healthline.com/breast-cancer/anatomy-animations#1/breast-cancer-where-it-starts

I thought this would be a great resource for your site and wanted to see if you could include it on your page: http://sonarbat.blogspot.com/

Please let me know if this would be possible. I’m happy to answer any questions as well.

Thanks so much,
